Trusting Modern to create a building worthy of their multi-million dollar equipment, OHSU opted for a full turnkey solution to house the most sophisticated MRI equipment in Oregon. The hillside stem wall foundation had to include a large concrete pad to minimize vibration and accommodate the installation and operation of the MRI. Also, the roof of the building had to be hatched to allow for lifting and placing the over 15 tons of equipment onto the concrete pad. A lining of special one inch thick steel plating with structural tube columns and copper shielding was installed to walls, floors, and ceilings to protect the magnetic fields from outside radio frequencies to enhance high resolutions. The chilled water cooling system was factory installed.
