As a second-generation owner, Jim Rasmussen directs the day-to-day operations of Modern Building Systems, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance Management from Oregon State University and has over 33 years in contract administration and construction management in commercial construction. He has been an officer of the company since 1989. Jim also dedicates much of his time to serving the community. Here are a few of the activities in which he is involved:

- Past mentor for MBA candidates of Atkinson graduate school at Willamette University
- Served as an Executive Board Member of the Creekside Rotary
- Served as a Chairman of the Board for the Salem Economic Development Corporation
- Served as Chairman of the Board for Cascade Employers Association
- Served as Board Member of the Modular Building Institute, the national association for commercial modular producers
- Authored several trade journal articles as well as being a guest speaker at conventions and forums
