Summary:

The City of Salem, Oregon contacted Modern Building Systems looking for a quality, turnkey solution for their need to expand the terminal at McNary Field.

The 3,936 square foot modular building was added to the back of the existing remodeled terminal. The 1950s architecture of the original terminal was updated to match the contemporary design of the modular building. After a twelve-year absence, commercial air service was returning. The building needed to accommodate all the needs of Air Traffic Control, the Transportation Security Administration, Delta Airlines, Baggage Handling, and rental car operations. The City of Salem chose Modern Building Systems over traditional site construction due to the inherent savings - in money, time, and the environment; furthermore, modular construction was the right decision for the City of Salem due to the minimal site impact to the tarmac and all existing private flights in and out of the airfield.

The new modular building features pressure-treated floors and micro-laminated pressure-treated rims. The building is complete with ramps and landings for easy access. Rain drains and down spouts, a fire alarm system, and a communications system were added to the terminal as well. Inside the modular terminal are a main seating area, security checkpoints, and one women’s and men’s restroom, each. These energy-efficient restrooms have occupancy sensors for fans and lights as well as sensor flush valve systems for the toilets.
